Houston, TX — A 59-year-old man died several days after he was struck by a bus while walking along the Gulf Freeway service road in Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The collision occurred at approximately 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in the 10400 block of the Gulf Freeway, also known as South Interstate Highway 45.
According to investigators, a bus was traveling northbound on the service road and attempted to turn left onto Edgebrook Drive when it struck the pedestrian. The man was walking from north to south underneath the freeway and was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision.
The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital following the crash. Doctors pronounced him deceased on Monday, August 24. Authorities identified him only as a 59-year-old man, with his name pending notification of his family.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. No information regarding impairment or potential charges was provided.
Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee and Clear Lake Patrol Division officers investigated the crash.
The fatal collision occurred along the Gulf Freeway service road near Edgebrook Drive and prompted an investigation by Houston police.
