Lubbock, TX – A 70-year-old man was killed Thursday morning after being struck by a driver who was fleeing from the police in Lubbock, according to the police.
The accident happened on May 7 near 93rd Street and Memphis Avenue.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, at about 11:31 a.m., one of its officers tried to make a traffic stop near 34th Street and Frankford Avenue, but the suspect sped away. The officer then pursued the suspect.
Police called off the chase at around 11:36 a.m., but a DPS helicopter kept track of the vehicle.
A Lubbock County Sheriff’s deputy resumed the chase when the suspect vehicle turned westbound onto 82nd Street from Knoxville Avenue
The suspect vehicle struck a 70-year-old man who was walking his dog near 93rd Street and Memphis Avenue at around 11:15 a.m.
The victim was rushed to UMC, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
The suspect, 65-year-old Gene Davis, was taken into custody.
The police are investigating the accident.
