Orange County, TX — A 59-year-old Vidor man was killed after he was struck by a Jeep while walking along FM 105 near Vidor Friday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The fatal pedestrian crash occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday on FM 105 near Sunnydale, north of Vidor.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2020 Jeep Wrangler was traveling northbound on FM 105 when a pedestrian entered the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian was identified as 59-year-old Jerry Johnson of Vidor. Johnson was transported to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries. The 47-year-old woman from Kountze who was driving the Jeep was not injured.
Authorities did not immediately release information about whether speed, impairment or other factors contributed to the collision. No arrests were reported in the information provided.
DPS and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian collision.
The crash prompted an emergency response along FM 105 as responders assisted the injured pedestrian and investigated the scene. Information regarding roadway closures or traffic delays was not provided.
The fatal Orange County crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
