Van Zandt County, TX — One person was killed after a Jeep Wrangler collided with an 18-wheeler on State Highway 19 in Van Zandt County Tuesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:22 a.m. Tuesday on State Highway 19 near County Road 2205, south of Canton.

According to DPS, the Jeep Wrangler was traveling northbound on Highway 19 when it failed to remain in a single lane. The Jeep crossed into the southbound lane and collided with an oncoming 18-wheeler.

The Jeep driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to a hospital in Tyler for treatment. Their identities and the extent of the truck driver’s injuries were not provided.

The reason the Jeep left its lane has not been released.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the crash and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The crash caused traffic disruption along Highway 19 near County Road 2205 as authorities responded and investigated the scene.

The fatal Van Zandt County crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
