Fatal Scooter Crash Shuts Down Northbound MoPac Near 45th Street
Austin, TX — An adult scooter rider was killed after being struck by a vehicle on northbound MoPac near 45th Street in Austin Wednesday morning, according to Austin police and Austin-Travis County EMS.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2026, on northbound MoPac at 45th Street.
According to Austin-Travis County EMS, the victim was riding a personally owned scooter on the highway when they were struck by a vehicle. The adult scooter rider died at the scene.
The authorities did not provide the identity of the victim.
Austin police and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and investigated the fatal collision.
The crash prompted a complete closure of northbound MoPac. By approximately 5:36 a.m., traffic was being diverted off the highway at 45th Street, with the closure extending toward the 4700 block.
The roadway remained closed for several hours as authorities worked at the scene. Austin police reported that MoPac was fully reopened at approximately 10:10 a.m.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
