Lubbock, TX. – A 16-year-old boy was killed in a rear-end collision on Wednesday afternoon in Lubbock.

According to the Hale County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred on I-27 near mile marker 44 at around 2 p.m.

A 16-year-old boy was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck northbound on I-27 when he crashed into the rear of a Dodge Ram pickup towing a trailer and operated by a 20-year-old.

The teenage driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Covenant Health Hospital, where he later died. Police say the teen was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

More information on the accident was not provided.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
