The deadly incident happened at about 8:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the southbound lanes of the 100 block of S Central Expressway.
Richardson, TX – A 36-year-old man is dead following a crash involving three vehicles on South Central Expressway in Richardson Sunday evening, according to the Richardson Police Department.
The deadly incident happened at about 8:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the southbound lanes of the 100 block of S Central Expressway.
Richardson Police Department said the driver of a Ford pickup truck with a blown tire was southbound in the left lane of S Central at a slow speed when it was rear-ended by an Infiniti sedan, operated by 36-year-old Michael Barrera.
After the initial collision, both vehicles stopped in the left lane, and both drivers and a passenger in the Infiniti exited the vehicles.
Police said a Volkswagen sedan approached the scene and the driver took evasive action to avoid hitting the stopped vehicles. In the process, the Volkswagen struck Barrera, who was standing near the center concrete divider, and killed him.
The Volkswagen also collided with the Ford and its driver. The Ford driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. No one else was injured.
The Richardson Police Special Crash Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
