The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2026, in the 5300 block of Gulfway Drive.
Port Arthur, TX – A 45-year-old Orange man, identified as DeKobi LeRay Fisher, has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash earlier this month on Gulfway Drive, according to the Port Arthur Police Department.
The deceased party was identified as 64-year-old Kimberly Kay Viator.
The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2026, in the 5300 block of Gulfway Drive.
According to police, Fisher struck Viator and left the scene without stopping to help. Officers were dispatched after receiving a report of an auto-pedestrian crash and found Viator lying on the side of the road.
Viator was taken to a hospital, where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash. No other injuries were reported.
Police arrested Fisher on Thursday morning at a job site in Port Arthur. He was taken into custody on a warrant charging him with collision involving death.
Investigators identified the vehicle and driver over approximately two and a half weeks following the crash.
A witness who saw the crash remained at the scene and called police.
The hit-and-run investigation led to Fisher’s arrest. The incident remains under investigation.
