Jones County, TX – A Maryland man was killed Monday evening in a motorcycle accident in Jones County, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly accident happened around 7:30 p.m. on May 11 on State Highway 6 south of Farm-to-Market Road 704.

DPS said Mason Alkire, 22, of Barton, Maryland, was riding a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle northbound at a high rate of speed and was passing another vehicle. After returning to the northbound lane, he failed to control his speed and rear-ended a 2022 Ford 350 truck towing a 2025 Big Tex dump semi-trailer.

Alkire was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The Ford driver, Jeremy Harris, 42, of Stamford, Texas, was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured in the accident.

Weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry.

The DPS is investigating the accident.
