Harris County, TX – One person was killed and another was injured after a wrong-way crash on the northbound Eastex Freeway in Harris County early Saturday morning, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The deadly incident happened at approximately 1:47 a.m. Saturday on the northbound Eastex Freeway at East Mount Houston.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling in the wrong direction on the northbound lanes of the freeway. Authorities said the driver traveled approximately two miles against traffic before crashing into a Honda Accord.
The driver of the Honda Accord was killed in the collision. Another person was injured. The name of the deceased driver was not released pending next of kin notification.
The Silverado driver is accused of driving while intoxicated. Authorities said the driver was approximately three times the legal alcohol limit at the time of the crash. No arrest details were provided.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office shut down the northbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway while deputies processed the scene and conducted the investigation. The freeway reopened at approximately 7 a.m.
The fatal Harris County crash remains under investigation as authorities continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the wrong-way collision.
